My wife, who suffers from severe allergies to nuts and sesame, and I were travelling from home from London Heathrow (LHR) with our two young daughters. Upon telling the British Airways(BA) staff aboard our flight they delivered the announcement to all passengers not to consume nuts, repeating the announcement several times – setting the example to other airlines – as they have done so every time we have flown with them.
Sadly, despite their due diligence in making the announcements, when leaving the aircraft my wife heard one of the stewards utter the words “there’s that allergy B!t*H” as she walked down the isle to leave the aircraft – vile and unprovoked words directed towards an innocent mother who was with her 2 year old and 8 month old daughters and a demonstration of lack of due regard for the severity of those who live with a food allergy.
Disappointingly, whilst accepting we had no evidence which we could supply to BA beyond our word, BA’s response was a generic apology that made no reference to the specifics of the case, food allergies or the use of abusive language by their staff.
