No one works harder to change the world than a mom who feels her child has been treated unfairly – so Lianne Mandelbaum is working hard to change airline policies regarding nut allergies.
Mandelbaum’s son Joshua, a nine-year-old who is about to enter third grade, suffers from a peanut allergy.
A year ago Sunday, on Aug. 31, 2013, Mandelbaum became angry at the way she and Joshua were treated by United. Boarding a plane from Denver to Newark, she was told by the gate agent that the crew would not make an onboard announcement about Joshua’s allergy. This contradicted what she had been told when she called United before boarding, Mandelbaum said.
