My very first experience traveling by plane with a severe food allergy diagnosis was a positive one– so positive in fact that it set the bar really high. I have an airborne allergy to citrus which has resulted in anaphylaxis.
During March 2017, I travelled from Toronto to St. Marten with Sunwing Airlines. Prior to boarding, the ground crew informed the flight crew. After boarding, the flight crew approached me to ask about the specifics of my condition. After confirming that I had an airborne allergy to citrus, the flight crew informed me that they would not be serving orange juice or any other citrus– and made an announcement asking all other passengers to refrain from eating citrus and nuts (because another passenger had a nut allergy).
The experience was repeated on my return flight. I wish this airline was bigger because their service was so exceptional I would use them all the time!
