Stress free flight for a peanut allergic person? It is possible.
This morning I boarded a flight on Southwest Airlines as always being really nervous to fly is the case for me. It’s not so much the flying part but the reality that I place my life in the hands of the airlines because I am deathly allergic to peanuts. The irony that Southwest is the only airline that I can put my trust in and they are the ones who hand out peanuts on flights.
They have told me to book the first flight out if possible because it’s usually the most clean air. They recommend getting the peanut allergic document at check in and then you are able to pre board. I did all of those things this morning, but was still very nervous. I got on the plane and told the flight attendant that I am extremely allergic to peanuts and to please let everyone know so that the crew is aware that it needs to be a no peanut flight. This is my third time flying with Southwest, so I had taken these steps before, but it’s still always very nerve racking.
I took my seat as everyone else does. I tell the people sitting around me about my allergy and guess what? They were extremely nice about it and said that is such a bummer I’m so sorry for your allergy. Then it gets even better, the flight attendant actually made an announcement expressing that this is a no peanut flight and that if you have nuts to please refrain from eating them. These words were like a song to my heart. You see, if you’re not allergic then you just don’t understand. Which is okay. But to those who are I am telling you that there is an airline that will respect you, take you seriously, and be kind about it. Something we could use more of in this world. Flying for me is usually not fun, but this morning I finally had the feeling of what it’s like to have a totally stress free flight.
Thank you Southwest.
