I have an 11-year-old kiddo with a peanut allergy.
We had a great experience traveling 3/18/2023 on Southwest Airlines from Kansas City to Phoenix and back this week! We were allowed early boarding and cleaning. They do not serve peanuts anymore on Southwest. On the way there, the flight attendant even asked if my older daughter and I could have the snack mix since it was manufactured in a facility with peanuts (she already knew the label well). That was kind of her to be aware, we thought.
Also, when we were pre-boarding to Phoenix, a 20-something girl who was also pre-boarding with a peanut allergy asked my son, “are you pre-boarding with a peanut allergy too?” They struck up a conversation, and she was so sweet to us. It made him feel not so alone in this. Then she asked if we could sit near each other. So we sat in rows right behind each other to make a better buffer zone and we scrubbed the area down together.
Kudos to all of Southwest, from the counter crew in the airport, to those scanning our tickets, the flight attendants, and pilots. All were welcoming and did not make us feel bad about any of our requests. AND the people around us were nice too. I mentioned his peanut allergy to all of them and asked if anyone would like an alternate snack if they had peanut items they had brought on the flight. Everyone said they did not have peanut items, but they appreciated my offer to give them a different snack. It was a relief to have 2 very relaxing flights!
