19 year old college athlete with peanut allergy refused early board on some American flights and allowed on others. This inconsistency is unacceptable for a legitimate medical condition.

Roulette Wheel on Pre-Board on American Airlines with a nut allergy.

9/5/2022 My 19-year old son flew American Airlines from MHT- PHL, PHL to LAS on Monday September 5 for a conference for his college internship. On Thursday Sep 9 he flew from LAS to CLT then CLT to MHT.

On three of those four flights this 6’3” healthy-looking college football player received push back or was denied early access to clean his space.

Quotes from my son’s text exchange with me include :

MHT: “They almost didn’t let me preboard… they told me they would let it slide this time but in the future I have to go to baggage check for permission”

PHL- woman was great! Said she also had a peanut allergy and she flagged my ticket.

LAS – told me I could pre-board then when I went up to preboard they refused me in front of everyone”

Another text “I wasn’t able to clean everything before the person sitting next to me arrived”

CLT- woman refused to let him pre-board because they don’t serve peanuts . When he asked about passengers bringing peanuts on board she said that wasn’t possible, and they clean the plane.

My son’s next text was “This is BS, it’s nerve racking when going up to ask because you don’t know what you will get for a response!”

Followed by this text; “every flight but one I’ve had push back”

Then the heartbreaking final two texts , “ I shouldn’t have to fight to try and keep my life safe.”

“Even though they might not serve nuts, other people can bring them on! They can say they clean the plane but I sure as hell know they don’t clean everything!” …followed by a photo of his food tray splattered with food and debris.

He is a seasoned traveler having flown 16 legs in 2022. On American, Delta, Ryan Air, Jet Blue. No issues on any flights except American.
