We recently flew on Air Canada from Brisbane – Vancouver return with a 2-year-old with severe peanut allergy. AC staff and crew were extremely helpful. I called their Medical Team in advance who issued a note onto our booking requesting a nut “Buffer Zone” around us. At check-in, the staff asked us about the allergy, checked we were carrying medication, said the crew would wipe down our seats and that we could board early.
We were invited to board early so we could also wipe down our area and get settled in before other passengers. When we boarded the plane the crew were expecting us and were very friendly and understanding about the allergy. They did initiate the Buffer Zone on both flights asking the passengers around us not consume nuts of any kind on board due to a severe allergy (and everyone was fine with it).
The flying time is 13-14 hours (over a lot of nothing over the Pacific) which is nerve-wracking as a parent but we felt relaxed once on board as everything had gone smoothly. We took all our own food for our daughter and took it in turns to eat our meals away from her as an extra precaution as there were some empty seats.
We would highly recommend Air Canada for dealing with a nut allergy so easily and taking it seriously. We would happily fly with them again.
