After researching peanut-free airlines online, I purchased three TAP Air tickets to Portugal. I later noticed that their extensive menu includes bags of peanuts and tree nuts. It turns out I read info on Google AI, which was incorrect. I called and asked if the flights could refrain from offering those bags of nuts/peanuts because my daughter has a peanut allergy. (She has multiple allergies but I know that peanuts is the only one they *sometimes* pay attention to.)
The TAP Air representative and supervisor both said, “There are 200 passengers and we cannot control what people eat on the plane.” I argued that they CAN control what they serve on the plane, especially since there are about TWENTY other food items offered on their transatlantic flights. They did not care that she could have a reaction over the Atlantic Ocean with nowhere to land. They also did not care that they were losing thousands of dollars when my daughter and I were forced to cancel.
Luckily, I had refundable tickets for the two of us. Unfortunately, my husband had non-refundable tickets and they refused to issue a refund because our daughter couldn’t travel. Now we have to take separate flights and spend a lot more money to take an airline that will hopefully accommodate.
