Prior to boarding our American Airlines flight from Aruba to Philadelphia, we informed the gate attendant that our 10-month-old child has a severe nut allergy. My husband pre-boarded specifically to wipe down our seats and surrounding areas, and we also proactively notified the flight attendant once on board.
Despite these disclosures, when snack service began, the flight attendant offered us a bowl of nuts—even after I again explained that my baby has a nut allergy. We were seated in first class, where bowls of nuts were served to passengers all around us, creating an unsafe environment for our child.
This experience was extremely concerning. We took every reasonable step to communicate a serious medical condition, yet no accommodation or precaution was made. We expected better awareness and responsiveness from American Airlines, particularly given the clear and repeated notifications provided before and during the flight.
