I traveled with Iberia Airlines on my way back from Costa Rica on 1/29/2023.
As I entered the plane, of course I made them aware of my allergy to nuts and showed them where I kept my Epi-Pens were in case of emergency. All airlines I have flown with in the past, have made an announcement that there is a passenger on board with a severe allergy. This has been to prevent passengers from eating nuts around me. Not Iberia. They told me it was “illegal” for them to announce my allergy, and completely dismissed it. This naturally made me panic, especially as it was the first time travelling on my own such a far distance.
Eventually, another passenger on board had to translate to the airline workers the severity of my allergy. Their response to this was moving me to a seat that had no one next to it, but still had many people around. They told me I could either “get off the plane” or “trust them and risk it”. RISK IT!? An airline told me my only option was to either miss my flight (which had already been delayed 5 hours) or to risk my life. This is unacceptable from any airline, as their priority should be to make their passengers safe, and at the least care for their life!
