Traveling with my kids from Fort Lauderdale to New York. My son is allergic to Hummus. JetBlue offers hummus in their snack boxes. The flight attendants refused to assist me in asking a nearby passenger not to consume the hummus and told me I should have notified them prior to flight.

Hard to fly with allergy to sesame.

Note from No Nut Traveler on the testimonial below:  As I always say airlines are consistently inconsistent when it comes to flying with food allergies.  However, we must also take the steps to research what is going to be served and notify the airline and flight attendants prior to flying.  This may have been the experience even with notification but it is always prudent to do so.

Testimonial:

I was flying with my 2 kids on Jet Blue- January 2018.  Parallel to my seat, a woman bought a snack box which contained hummus. My son is very allergic to hummus. I asked the flight attendant to ask the passenger to please stop eating the hummus and I would gladly replace her snack box with something else. The flight attendant told me that she could not do that because I should have let them know in advance and she is already eating it, therefore it was too late. I asked to speak with a supervisor, she told there was none, as another attendant came over. I told her my son is very allergic to hummus could they please ask the lady to discard it. She said no, as well, that I should have told them in advance. Then she asked if there was a emergency and I told her no. I wanted to avoid an emergency .

The flight attendant offered to move my son’s seat but she would not ask the passenger to stop eating the hummus. My son is only 10 years old and it was a packed flight. She wanted to move him by himself. The flight attendant proceeded to tell me the rules and reiterated that I should have let them know before the flight. I could not believe what I was hearing. I said then go, just go. I was spellbound and felt like they were ganging up on me. So that the situation would not escalate, I asked them to leave.

I realized, I had to take the matter into my own hands and asked the lady to please stop eating the hummus and I WOULD BUY HER WHAT EVER ELSE SHE WANTED. Thankfully she said yes and got rid of it. I was so upset and worried the whole flight that my son would react. I could not believe how I was treated by the flight attendants whose names I was unable to find out.
I am a frequent flyer with jet blue .
