We took my anaphylactic (allergic to tree-nuts, dairy and egg) 3 year old on her first American Airlines flight last week (2/20/2023) and thanks to following No Nut Traveler Facebook page, I knew steps to take so we could fly safer. I was aware that I should contact the airline before and inform them of the allergy and to ask to board prior to clean everything. I used a seat cover and did ask for no nuts to be served and a buffer zone. Happy to report that thankfully American Airlines was awesome with everything.
The gate crew let us board first each flight to clean her seat area and give us time to set up her seat cover that I brought with me. They wouldn’t create a buffer zone but when I asked about nuts being served they said “ nuts on their plane were a thing of the past” they served biscoff cookies that were safe for her but being up in the air, I chose not to give them to her since she hadn’t eaten them before. No Nut Traveler recommends bringing your own food and American Air website said there could be cross contamination with food and that they can’t control what other passengers bring. For future flights I will always choose American, they were so accommodating, I expected to be treated like a nuisance but they were very helpful.
