I’m so grateful she arrived safe, but her anxiety was palpable. So sad as we have never had a problem with WestJet. They have always been accommodating. This is just ANOTHER example of why procedures and training should be the same industry wide. We got lucky, this time.

False Sense of Security with WestJet!

111/12/2021

So disappointed… my 18-year-old just took her first solo flight to enjoy her spring break and after all the preparations, we called to put allergies in file, booked a seat up front and by window which we paid extra for, told gate agent, she was surrounded by people eating nuts.

First issue was that someone else sat in her seat and refused to move. So, my daughter told the staff and they said we will move YOU?!?! She stood her ground and said no I don’t want to be in the back of the plane. We choose to be by the exit, so she can leave the plane in first wave of exit. So then she was told that there is a seat in business class but, “You can’t have the free stuff.”

She accepts and reminds staff of her allergy. They tell her that they will make an announcement and ask the people around her to not eat nuts. This never happened and in fact went on to serve everyone nuts!!!!

My daughter thankfully was wearing an N95 mask and buried her face in her hoody for the flight. SERIOUSLY, I just don’t understand why we are still dealing with this! There are so many other snacks companies can serve. Why would they even want to risk an in-flight reaction?! What would be more of an inconvenience?! Especially a student traveling alone Ugh

I’m so grateful she arrived safe, but her anxiety was palpable. So sad as we have never had a problem with WestJet. They have always been accommodating. This is just ANOTHER example of why procedures and training should be the same industry wide. We got lucky, this time.
Sigh
