We traveled with Delta over the summer on connecting flights cross country with our two sons, our youngest of which is an infant and severely allergic to peanuts (as well as dairy and egg). We were traveling on buddy passes through a family member, which meant we were on standby.
Because we were on standby, we were not cleared to enter the plane early or even during boarding as we had to wait until the end. We hurried onto the plane and did our cleaning and wiping down of the area and also utilized fitted crib sheets over the seats. Our first flight attendants were sympathetic, as they saw me frantically trying to get everything settled and ready for take off. They were helpful and understanding. They made an announcement and they did not serve nuts. For our connecting flight, the gate agent even cleared us to go on during regular boarding so as to ensure that we would slow down the flight. We were really happy with our outgoing flights. Our first flight back also went well.
Unfortunately, one flight attendant managed to spoil our experience on our very last flight. After boarding the last flight, she made multiple comments that we *should* have pre-boarded so that we didn’t take so much time. At first I simply nodded as because I already knew that and she didn’t realize that we were standby. She raised the issue once again when we departed the plane. I explained that we were standby, and she tersely said that we had taken too long to get settled in and that if they had wanted to, they could have kicked us off the flight for delaying it (we did not). Obviously, this information might be accurate, but she was rather rude in the way she conveyed the message. I simply nodded and deplaned, but was really disappointed by her demeaning attitude which soured an otherwise very good experience.
