Note from Lianne NO NUT TRAVELER
It is my steadfast advice to never accept an airline meal no matter the assurances. Staff are often not trained on cross contamination or anaphylaxis and even when ingredients are listed there are often disclaimers that food is processed in a facility with nuts or other allergens. Vegan is unregulated in the US and abroad. For more info you can read this article on airline meals-https://www.allergicliving.com/2023/12/21/the-trouble-with-airline-meals-and-food-allergies/

My son’s allergies are clearly listed in his Air France flying blue profile. I registered them in advance of our trip as always and the outbound flight was as expected. Unfortunately, we were booked on an “operated by Delta” flight on the way back.
I called 48 hours before the flight – they could not see the allergy registration I spent literally hours on the phone with them and they confirmed it was all registered. Then we got to the gate, and they had no record of anything. Pre-boarding wasn’t an option because they started boarding while we were trying to sort the issue.
I spoke to the head of the flight crew upon boarding and asked that they simply not bring us food. They then offered my son food anyway and the flight attendant’s response was – well you didn’t tell me that. How was I supposed to know which of over 20 crew members was going to deliver the food? That’s why I told the head flight attendant. The purser then apologized and told me it’s because Air France and Delta’s systems don’t actually talk to each other on these issues. he told me I’d be getting a voucher in my account – small compensation for the stress but then the voucher never even arrived. I’ll be making sure not to book code-share flights or any flights on Delta.
