There is no consistency in the experience, and it appears flight crews make it up as they go and your experience depends on mood versus policy. My daughter has a severe tree nut allergy. Delta airlines disregarded her allergy and let us know their policy is to serve pistachios on their flights. The couldn’t have cared less about her safety.

Delta Airlines disregards severe tree nut allergy!

On Monday January 8th 2024, my family was flying out of MCO (the Orlando airport) coming home from a surprise trip to Disney World. We had a beautiful trip until it was to fly back home to the MSP airport.

Just had the worst Delta Air Lines experience I have ever had. I fly them all the time and never have had an issue. My daughter has a life-threatening tree nut allergy. So, like good parents, after submitting the online form, we went to the Delta Air Lines counter early to confirm and ask them to not serve tree nuts on the flight. Never been a problem. Well, that is where things hit the fan on flight DL1514 from MCO to MSP today. Not only were we told that it was not possible, but we were lectured about Delta policy and told our daughter was an inconvenience to other travelers. In fact, the flight crew refused to even give us a shred of consideration. We ended up getting on the plane at the last minute after going through a series of ridiculous back-and-forth conversations that led nowhere, only to be mocked and treated like criminals. I see this type of stuff on YouTube videos but have never experienced it myself.

My daughter is not an inconvenience Delta Air Lines, and safety should be your primary concern. We informed Delta online about her allergy and we talked to the person working at the counter. We were told no worries. Twenty minutes later we were called up as we were supposed to be pre-boarding and told that they would be serving pistachios in every row but ours per Delta policy. I said no you can’t do that it is too dangerous for her. The lady contacted the crew members, a on duty Delta manager and corporate. This exchange went on for forty minutes and they would not budge. I was told by a staff member I was overreacting. They asked if we had an Epi-Pen. Of course, we do, but why would we want to use it ever let alone on an airplane ride??? They could not have cared less about my daughter who was crying and so scared to get on this flight. It was far more important for the other passengers to have the option to eat pistachios than it was to protect her. When we boarded, I asked the row in front of us and behind us if they would mind not eating pistachios. They were kind and considerate people and had no problem with this. When we finally got off this terrible flight, I was apprehended by a Delta employee very rudely. She said she needed to talk to me and asked about what and she pointed to another area for us to talk. I actually thought to myself, am I being arrested? Her tone, like her fellow co-workers was cold and harsh. She had what looked like a transcript in her hand and said I made an announcement to the plane asking them to not eat nuts. The flight crew called ahead to tell on report me. Mind you, I only asked the rows in front of us and behind us. She said Delta does not condone that behavior and it is against their POLICY! How about being a human being? We have never ever had issues when flying Delta in the past and I am just in shock.
