Flight: DL 6301 from CVG to STL April 2019
Best crew ever on the ground and in the air!! I’m sorry I didn’t get the name of the gate attendant but the crew in the air were Stevie and Jake.
My daughter has very severe food allergies and this can make air travel very stressful.
As soon as we arrived at the gate and informed the attendant who we were she said, “oh yes, I have your nut allergy right here in the record. Let me go inform the flight crew and let them know your seat assignment. She then offered to let us pre-board to wipe down my daughter’s seat and even offered wipes in case we forgot to bring our own!!
Before we even boarded, the gate attendant made an announcement requesting that passengers refrain from bringing nuts on board.
Once on board, we introduced ourselves to the flight crew. I then threw them a bit of a curveball as I explained that not only was my daughter severely allergic to nuts but also to dairy. She can safely be around all dairy products except “powdery cheese snacks” (things like cheese doodles, cheese popcorn, “cheese it” crackers and other similar snacks that are covered in dairy dust that gets everywhere). The reason I mentioned this on this particular flight was because on a prior Delta flight when they kindly removed all the snacks with nuts, my daughter soon realized that the only remaining snack was a snack mix loaded with powdered cheese!!
That’s when Stevie and Jake really went to work. They quickly looked everywhere they could think of where there might be packages of cookies (the only safe snack on board that was safe for my daughter to be around!!) and found enough to only serve those to the passengers. They then made an announcement letting everyone know that there was someone with a nut allergy on board and asking the passengers to refrain from eating nut products.
But the sweetest thing of all was when Stevie came walking over to us with a banana in her hand. She told us that Jake had read every label on all of the snack choices and they all contained nut warnings but he wanted my daughter to be able to have a snack so he provided a banana (likely from the first class snack selection). That was truly above and beyond.
Traveling with severe allergies can be extremely stressful but your ground crew and flight crew removed as much of the stress as possible, ensuring a safe flight for my daughter. We are eternally grateful.
