Flight UA40 to Rome, Italy from Newark.
We notified United Airlines(UA) ahead of trip to advise them of my son’s nut allergy. Discussed with UA rep at gate, was told we could pre board and that they would advise the in-flight crew.
We boarded plane and the flight crew completely disregarded our request. They offered nuts throughout cabin and asked (with a smile) if I would like some as well. My son wore a mask throughout this portion of the trip and for a period of time afterward. Incredibly disrespectful to him personally and to us as a family.
Our 7/7 flight home on UA509 was set up in an identical way with the complete opposite outcome. A phenomenal crew that acknowledged the nut allergy, removed the nuts from rotation and offered the several other snack choices to the cabin instead. The ability for flight attendants to have such varying discretion is a significant policy issue.
