Would you ever think to ask if carrot hummus contained hidden cashews? I did not. My advice, if you have a severe tree nut allergy, check with the flight attendant about every meal served on American Airlines.
April 2026- I was traveling in First Class on American Airlines flight AA 2832 and had pre-ordered the sliders. The meal came with a side of carrot hummus, but there was no indication that it contained cashews.
After taking a bite, I immediately knew something wasn’t right. I called the flight attendant over and asked what was in the hummus. By then, my throat had started to tingle, and I knew I was in trouble.
I searched the ingredients online and found that the carrot hummus used cashews. The flight attendant also then confirmed that the hummus contained cashews.
Fortunately, I had only eaten a couple of small bites—less than 1/8 of an ounce. I had a rough day dealing with the reaction, but thankfully it did not progress to full anaphylaxis.
