We boarded an early morning United Airlines plane to Denver to start a family ski trip. My daughter is allergic to peanuts and all nuts. Because it was such an early morning flight I never even thought to alert Airline Personnel. We just wiped off seats sat down and were really excited for the trip.
There was another nut allergy kid who was on our flight and the parents had alerted the airline staff. The staff made an announcement and asked if people could please refrain from eating nuts during the flight.
After the nut allergy announcement, a man behind us made a very rude comment. He said, ” I would love to just whip out my nut muffin and eat it right in front of that kids face, this is B*** S***. We heard it loud and clear and my daughter started to cry.
I never said anything to the passenger or to the airline staff, but believe me…I was shooting him death glares any chance I could get! It was so disheartening. I had to keep a stiff upper lip for my daughter, but definitely shed a few tears later. Food allergies are NOT a joke, especially up in the air, far from medical care. I don’t want my daughter or anyone else flying with a food allergy to be embarrassed for a legitimate medical condition.
