After years and years of not flying due to my child’s food allergies, we finally decided to give Delta Airlines a chance. We chose Delta because their website says they assist people with food allergies.
I prepared ahead by alerting the airline directly, making sure I had EPI -Pens and Benadryl and a letter from my child’s allergist (which I did not need but wanted to have it on me just in case).
In March 2017, we flew with them round trip from DFW to Reno, NV. Our experience with the airline was great so we took another trip in September and had an even better experience. The flight attendants were super helpful and kind, although I do think there were differing levels of knowledge and understanding among them. We were permitted to pre-board to wipe down our seating area.
Peanuts were not served, although they did serve tree nuts and other items that were manufactured with tree nuts. While that was ok for us, it could present a problem for other travelers who have tree nut allergies. They also made very nice and informative announcements in the boarding area and again on the airplane.
Overall it was a good experience and I would fly with Delta again. If you choose Delta, there is a place on your ticket where you can note that you have a peanut allergy (ordering tickets online otherwise tell them when you order). Be sure to check in at the gate and ask for pre-boarding.
