PSA for any food allergy parents traveling soon..
We were just in Mexico City on 6/19 and they would not let us board our flight back to Los Angeles due to my 4 year old’s peanut allergy.. on AeroMexico. We had been traveling through time zones since 1am with two young kids and had waited 8 hours already in the airport for this flight.
When we begged them to just let us board and just not serve the nuts for a 3 hour flight, the Aeromexico manager said to my husband, “Do you want your tickets or not?” He then proceeded to rebook us on a flight the following morning (where they did not serve nuts (not sure about first class honestly). They refused to give us any vouchers or accommodation for a hotel.
The manager was extremely rude and showed zero empathy or decency. When we told him it this was a financial hardship, he advised us to take a taxi with our kids and all our carry ons to somewhere away from the airport in a more economical area. We had to pay for our own hotel and food while we were stranded which was a great hardship on our current financial situation. They offered zero assistance to us with two young kids at 9pm after waiting for 8 hours for this flight.
When I pleaded with them that we could not afford a hotel and would have to sleep on the floor of the airport, the woman at the counter smirked at us, rolled her eyes and covered her mouth with her hand like she was laughing. It was not funny.
Note this was not for a vacation, we went to Ecuador to cremate my husband’s mother. This was a hard trip for him and we could barely afford to go. Aeromexico’s lack of customer service and abuse of our finances really made sure we won’t be traveling again for a while
